Olifants Gorge River Rafting

 

Half Day Trip:  R530 per person

A fun section of river on the Olifants is perfect for families, friends and corporate groups.

The Olifants River’s rapids are individually graded from Grade 2 – Grade 3.  The difficulty of rapids are directly related to the water levels.  We run this 12km section as a Half Day trip.  An abundance of bird- and wildlife is found on the banks of the river.

 

The Half Day Olifants Gorge River Rafting Experience

 

The day starts when we depart at 09:00 in our 4 x 4 vehicles for a 45 minute drive through Baobab – ridden country to the put in point in a rural area. Once at the put in point all guests receive standard issue life jackets, helmets, a paddle and a boat.  Our Trip Leader then proceeds to inform you of the finer points in River Rafting – paddling & safety.

After the first couple of rapids we stop for a water break.  Then we continue the way down.  The Olifants River in the Gorge has lots of fun features like:  wave trains (wheeeee!), non retentive holes, and surfing spots.

We meet our drivers and refreshments at the take out point below the Strydom Tunnel and off we go back to base camp at approx. 14:00

Trip time varies and is dependant on factors such as: group ability, weather conditions, water levels and group size.   8 out of 10 times we arrive back at camp at 14:00.

 

More Important Information

 

We do hold an age restriction of 13 years on the Olifants Gorge River Rafting.  It’s there for a reason.  If your child is under 13 but over 9 you can request that he/she joins in on the trip, but we will need some info before we can give the green light.

 

Safety on the Olifants Gorge River Rafting

 

We only use trained and accredited Adventure Guides.  Our Trip Leader is APA qualified and accredited and has years of experience on the Olifants Gorge River Rafting.  He also holds a qualification in Wilderness First Aid and medical evacuation.  We have 24 hour medical emergency stand by services from the professionals at Africa Safe-T.

 

Trip Cancelation

 

Never Happens!  If it’s raining – we go because you’ll get wet anyway.  If the water levels are too high – we take you out on one of the alternative rivers which are just as much fun.  So in short:  we never cancel a trip!

 

Olifants Gorge Overnight Trip

 

Paddle the Olifants Gorge, 30km in two days (one night), and overnight on the banks at our camp site.  The ultimate bush experience; sleep under the stars in your own sleeping bag.  Our guides prepare dinner over the camp fire and tell you about the surrounding fauna & flora. Get up the following morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast cooked over an open fire and jump on the river to tackle those rapids. Arrive back at base camp approx. 16:00
